Support
Questions, bug reports or ideas: support@hellohoming.com. Please mention your macOS version and what you were doing. Do not send documents or memories; we do not need them.
Getting started
- Search: press
⌃⌥Min any app, type, and press Return to copy the result. - Read text on screen: press
⌃⌥Rand drag a box over any text. It is copied and remembered. - Ask a question: in the search window, type a question and press
⌘↩. This needs macOS 26 with Apple Intelligence turned on. - Search your documents: open Settings, choose folders, and Homing reads the PDF, Word, Excel, PowerPoint, Pages, Numbers, text and Markdown files in them.
Troubleshooting
- Reading text on screen does nothing, or window titles are not remembered. Open System Settings > Privacy & Security > Screen & System Audio Recording and switch Homing on. If Homing is not in the list, use the Welcome Guide in the menu and click Allow. You may need to quit and reopen Homing afterwards.
- A document folder says it needs access. macOS asks you to choose the folder again after some changes. Click Grant Access in Settings and pick it.
- Search finds nothing for something I copied. Passwords, keys, card numbers and codes are skipped on purpose, and so are password managers and any app you excluded.
- Ask says it is unavailable. It needs macOS 26 or later with Apple Intelligence turned on. Search works without it.
- Files in iCloud are not searched. Files that are not downloaded to the Mac cannot be read. Download them in Finder first.
Removing Homing and its data
- In the Homing menu choose Forget Everything, then Quit.
- Delete Homing from your Applications folder.
- To remove everything it stored, delete the folder
~/Library/Containers/com.trueheadingdigital.homing(hold Option in Finder's Go menu to see the Library folder). - Optional: in Keychain Access, delete the item named
com.trueheadingdigital.homing. Without it, nothing that was stored can be read.
What Homing works on
A Mac with Apple silicon. Built for macOS 14 or later. Search is in English.
